Innovative Ideas for Health Care Robotics Put Five Companies In Finals of Nation’s First RoboBowl Competition
The Robotics Technology Consortium, Carnegie Mellon University and the Innovation Accelerator today announced the five teams from across the United States that are finalists in the inaugural RoboBowl venture competition
. The entrepreneurial teams will compete before a blue-ribbon panel of judges at Carnegie Mellon on Oct. 13.

Body of Work: Performance Artist Stelarc Explores Humanity’s Relationship With Technology
CMU’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute and College of Fine Arts Present Lecture
The performance artist known as Stelarc, who is surgically constructing an extra ear on his arm, has performed atop a six-legged robot and otherwise used his body to explore how technology is redefining what it means to be human, will deliver a public lecture at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday Oct. 5 in the Rashid Auditorium of Carnegie Mellon University’s Gates and Hillman centers.

Si Young Oh, a senior majoring in computer science and mathematical sciences, and Tom Conerly, a 2011 computer science graduate, were among the 24 semi-finalists in the algorithm competition at the TopCoder Open in Hollywood, Fla., this week.

David Brumley, who earned his PhD in computer science at Carnegie Mellon in 2008 and is now an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, has won a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) — the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on young scientists and engineers.
